A Progressive Christian Community in South Austin

Our Mission

The mission of Faith Presbyterian Church is to be an inclusive and welcoming community sharing the Good News of God's grace and love in the name of Jesus Christ and in the spirit of His life and teachings. We are committed to ministries of compassion and social justice in our diverse local and global communities. We seek to nurture, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, a Presbyterian witness within our congregation and in the world around us. We welcome participation in the full life of the church by all persons, regardless of race, color, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, or physical ability.

Our church’s sense of mission is guided and informed by a social reading of the Bible that locates the heart of the Gospel in the witness of many Scripture passages. (I John 4:16, Matthew 25: 37-40; Micah 6:8; James 2: 18; Matthew 22: 37-39,et al).  Rather than interpreting the Bible primarily in individualistic terms, our church is seeking to address the broader social implications of the Gospel that impact our lives, our community, and the larger world around us.

As our Mission Statement suggests, our congregation appreciates the inclusive nature of God's love in Jesus Christ which calls us to move beyond our fears and prejudices to break down relational barriers created by racism, nationalism, sexual orientation, and economic injustices. In the worship and ministries of our church we seek to raise our voices on behalf of peace amid the warring madness of our world and to seek the common good for our communities in ways that provide all people with dignity, equity, and respect.

Because of our church's commitment to being an inclusive Presbyterian congregation our church is also a member of the More Light Presbyterians organization and the Covenant Network of Presbyterians
