Worship LifeThe worship life of our church is defined by a progressive Christian orientation to the Gospel of Jesus and by our Presbyterian heritage. Our worship usually includes Lay Leaders who help guide the liturgy, congregational singing, the reading of Scripture, the offering of prayers, a sermon that seeks to relate the Gospel to issues and needs in contemporary life, and the celebration of the two sacraments embraced in the Protestant tradition, baptism and the Lord's Supper. We share in the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of each month, alternating the method that the communion elements are served. Our church's worship and fellowship life are both enhanced by our church's music ministry that includes an adult choir, a children's choir, and a contemporary worship band. Our congregational singing includes both traditional and contemporary hymns and our worship services are enriched periodically by our children's choirs and our contemporary worship band. Our volunteer adult choir practices on Wednesday nights at 7:00. We invite those who enjoy singing to speak with our Director of music about joining the choir or those who are musically gifted to participate in our worship band. Our church also provides nursery care for infants and toddlers during both our worship service and Christian Education hour.
Please accept an invitation to join our congregation for worship at 10:00 am on Sundays or for special worship services during the church seasons of Advent and Holy Week. OUR WORSHIP PRAYER OF THE WEEK God of Every Age, we come here out of a culture that is constantly speaking to us in many voices; some that are trying to seduce us into endless consumption,
some that are seeking to pit us against people from other lands,
some that are fearful of any agenda to serve the common good.
These voices often threaten to undermine our reliance on Jesus’ alternative way of living in the world. So, we pray that we might hear your voice speaking clearly to us in His spirit–
calling us to embrace social justice for all without giving in to utopianism,
asking us to trust the power of neighborly love without becoming cynical about our capacity to help those in need,
and living with an active hope for peace without succumbing to the voices of fear and distrust that surround us.
For in this prayer we are yearning for the faith and courage it takes to hold on to Christ’s vision of instituting heaven on earth. Amen.
